Dead Survivor is the third book in the Rashmi Purohit mystery series written by Neelabh Pratap Singh. Even though it was a series, it can be read as a stand-alone.

Uniqueness:

Neelabh managed to take the reader on an adventure that doesn’t feel like a roller coaster where we miss out on the little stuff. Still, it was the kind of ride where we are fully aware of what’s happening at all times but also feel the cringe in the pit of the stomach when the ride suddenly picks up the pace.

Predictability:

Almost all thrillers are rated based on whether the reader could guess the killer or not. But it’s not entirely fair to just take that element because there are only limited suspects. By 60% of the book, for a reader who has read a lot of mysteries, we have a decent idea of who the killer could be, and that’s where Neelabh showed us his magic.

The twists are till the last pages, which made the ride enjoyable.

Writing style:

There are all types of authors out there. Some who play it safe, others who go all in. Neelabh turned out to have his own style. I am one of those people who feel uncomfortable when someone just includes random new words in the book when it is going smooth. Even though I am a huge Shashi Tharoor fan, not everyone can just handle complicated vocabulary. Neelabh, on the other hand, did it with ease. Many new words could have been simplified with their daily usage synonym, but he didn’t compromise.

Cost worth:

A nail-biting thriller for 100 rupees? Why not. It’s a steal in all possible ways. If you have Kindle unlimited, then you certainly hit the jackpot. All other books in the series are also available on Kindle Unlimited, which means nothing but more fun.

Entertainment:

At some points, I started to feel like the book was slowing down when we revisited the past. Still, a surprise turn was waiting around the corner, making the roller coaster speed up immediately. It was an adventure all over again.

The Review

9 Score

For an author who just started his journey, Neelabh stands out on the top with his skill and unique way of storytelling. It's not easy to take a break while reading this book. If you have to put it down, you will always look forward to picking it up immediately to see what is happening. This book is a must-read if you like crime thrillers without making it uncomfortable to the readers.

  • You are looking for a well-written crime thriller.
