Very rarely do you come across a story where a killer is remorseful of his wrongdoing. He tries really hard to clear his conscience but just can’t get over the incident. This is the story of Skyler, a man who ended up killing a little kid in an incident 10 years ago.

Uniqueness

Few stories are focused on repenting a culprit, which is where this story’s uniqueness lies. The protagonist is a man who is haunted by his actions during an incident that occurred 10 years ago. The story is about how he finally achieves true freedom from his sins.

Predictability

This is a short story, and there is not much to say in terms of predictability. However, what was unpredictable was the numerous disruptions (both good and bad) happening in the protagonist’s personal life, which kept the story fresh.

Writing Style

This is where I appreciate the author most. He has very carefully brought out all the characters’ sentiments and emotions in the story with very few words. Whether it’s the innocence of a little kid standing his ground or the complex emotions of the victim’s kin who come face to face with the main character. There were a few moments when there was a little bit of a disconnect because the perspectives were changing quickly.

Entertaining

The story is fast-paced and well written. In fact, you can visualize the whole story unfolding right in front of you, like a movie. The alternating perspectives will make you go through a rollercoaster of emotions. You feel bad for the protagonist and, at the same time, end up sympathizing with him. A simple language ensures that the book is easy to read and gets you hooked very quickly.

This is a short, fast-paced story with multiple perspectives written to make the reader go through a range of emotions. While there are a few mild disconnects, the story overall is really engaging and a quick read.
